There is a certain gentle hissing
sound of leaves rustling in elm trees that always seems to
signal the impending autumnal wonderment. I can hear it now
from the open window of Appleman Studio. It's a splendid evening
here, cool and clear. No doubt though, the neighbors probably
wish I would close the damn thing. I often wonder what they
think I am up to, listening to the same song over and over
and over again like a madman. Well, that is what mixing a
record is all about: obsessive listening. Delta Clutch have
been doing a lot of mixing. We are finishing up final details
on our new CD, tentatively titled "canwecomein?".
We are pushing hard for a fall release. Of course, this thing
has been in the works for a long time, but between all the
live shows, writing new songs and working with other groups,
it seems like there are not enough hours in the day. This
summer we played, for me at least, a dream gig. It was a night
of Who songs performed by some of BostonÅfs best bands.
Man, we got to crush " A Quick One While He's Away",
one of my faves. Only bummer was that our keyboard man, Phil,
was unable to join us for some "Gettin' In Tune".
(Phil's killer first solo CD is set for release any day now,
see: www.philaiken.com) There were many great performances
that night, but no one could touch The Dirty Doctors searing
version of "Young Man Blues". The Pills came close
with their version of "So Sad 'Bout Us" and a thunderous
"Real Me". Speaking of The Pills, I am currently
working with their newest member, Dave Aaronoff, on a new
CD by his other band The Details. This one features the great
Al Kooper on keys! I am also working on a new CD by "The
Shods" (who we play with on October 5th). Another local
band, Pure Fiction, has just started lurking around here again
as well. But enough about all those other guys using our gear,
we promise that we will be done soon. However, remember that
everything is how it's meant to be. When the CD is done I
assure you, you will think it is the most honest DC CD to
date. Until then, look for us to take some chances on the
live stage.
Don't talk, don't listen, just feel alright.
