Myers and I had been working together in a side project in need of a singer. My former Anastasia Screamed cohort, Chick Graning, who was with Scarce at the time, came to the rescue. He reintroduced Pip and I. (we had met briefly at an Anastasia Screamed show in Athens, Ga. back in '91) We were all into the same things; Creedence, Burritos, Big Star, The Replacements, Booze ect. So Pip has been taking the Bonanza Bus Line two or three times a week ever since. We practice in the Boston area but Pip is from Rhode Island.

Nate was next. We had taken an ad out in a local paper for a keyboard player. We were looking for a Nicky Hopkins type or Ian Stewart. Well after trying a few who we didn't like and a few who didn't like us, Nate called and told us we were really looking for a second guitarist. He was into the same things as well so we gave him an audition. I think we will come to a decision soon.

Keyboard man Phil Aiken joined the grewp a about a year ago after answering an add in a local paper. It turned out that I had met Phil a few years before at a Buffalo Tom recording session at Fort Apache Studio. He has added a whole new dimension to the band. He can go from playing lush pop hammond to twisted freaky farfisa. He also has a great ear for production. In his spare time, Phil also plays with Buffalo Tom, Crown Victoria and The Bathing Beauties. Before Phil we were joined for brief times by Jamie Hill now of Vapor Child, Brian Surge formerly of Sway, and Eric Fontana of Mother Jefferson

Regarding players , Nate and I take turns on bass which leaves only one guitar playing at a time. We've had a few bass players before the switch thing. Scott Lerner was the first bass player, he hooked me up with Myers, his previous drummer. Scott played on the singles . Now he plays guitar for Pure Fiction. Aaron Burr dug in on Rye and Hard Luck Machine. Dylan Roy (former Verbal Assault, Belly B-sides, currently traveling full time with a blues band whose name escapes me) played with us for a few cool months.

We recorded our first 45 at Squid Hell Studio with Anastasia Screamed engineer Drew Townson. He also assisted on our 2nd 45 "Wooden Nickels". After that we began putting together our own studio we call Appleman where Drew got us up and running on our first EP "RYE". He helped on the basics but we were off and running DIY from then, "Hard Luck Machine" (who's name comes from a Dan Cray tune) was all us at the helm. We have done scads of demo tunes here as well. The newest CD contains mostly Tim O'heir production and engineering done at a state of the art studio. We decided to contribute 2 Appleman tracks as well. We have more coming soon.
